Where The Light Resides
Chapter 7: The Beginning of the End
We marched in rows of tens across the open plains, openly challenging the power of the Light clan. Our liege, Rastel, and I led our troops out to battle. Rarely did our liege come with us on such an occasion. Today was truly going to be a very remarkable day.
Soon, though unexpected, the Light clan, led by Ossentra, would march out to meet us. Though thoroughly unsurprised, as I was the one who was the soul cause of this, I would act as if I had expected nothing. It was simply a matter of time before the two armies met, unleashed their power, and would fight. And yet, I still had not decided whether or not to truly fight on the side of the dark or the light.
The law of our world states that neither major element may kill any part of the other, but may harm it to being into the point of being an inch from death. The primal orb was the only thing that allowed for this law to be broken, and with my power, I could spread its strength through to every one of the warriors, allowing us to be able to completely obliterate them without them being able to stop us. The point of taking the light primal orb was to prevent the Light clan from being able to do the same. However, because I was still in possession of the orb, I could easily pass it over to Ossentra while we were fighting and allow the fight to become evenly matched. That, or I could suppress it and cause the obliteration of an entire element of the world. The thing was, who knows what that could possibly do to the fate of the planet.
I ordered a halt at about half-point across the field. In the distance I could see the Light army marching into view. Then gasps came from behind me from the startled soldiers, not knowing how this could have happened. My liege turned on me and demanded, What have you done to us?
I have done nothing, my lord, I appealed. I have done nothing but what you have asked of me.
You were the last one to see that dreaded Light girl, he spat. What did you do to her?
I burned her in my quarters. It was a personal victory.
He glared at me for a second, then turned back to the advancing army. He was going to have to think quickly in order to make sure that the Dark clan still came out on top.
Wait for them, I commanded. Once you can clearly see them, begin the assault.
I could feel the tension in the air as the men behind me stiffened, preparing for this unforeseen change in their tactics. I was waiting until I could see Ossentra well enough to recognize her. This was clearly going to be a rough day.
Now! I bellowed, and instantaneously there was a roar of rage and the men flowed forward almost as if a wave were crashing down around me. I ripped my blade from its sheath and, with an ear-shattering yell, threw myself onto the closest Light warrior.
The man brought his own blade up quickly, attempting to parry the blow, but before he knew what had happened, I had flicked my left leg out to his side, then brought the spikes sharply into his ribs. He gasped, staggered, and fell, the life draining out of him. Deep in my mind, I knew he was an innocent. However, my mind was being clouded by the darkness that wanted nothing more then to cause the deaths of those who I had been taught were my enemies. I pounced from one man to another, killing any one who got in my way, friend or foe. One of my allies who was in between an enemy soldier and me I used as a launch pad. I sunk my arm spikes into his back, used my wings to flip myself over him, and brought my leg smartly through the head of the opposing soldier. Both immediately died, and the smell of their blood flowing down onto the ground rejuvenated my senses.
We cant kill them! We dont have the power of a primal orb! one of the Light sentries called out, and was immediately silenced. However, his message was already sinking in. None of the Dark clan, except for the ones I had killed myself, were dying.
You want a primal orb! I called out, pulling the Light orb from the inside of my cloak. Well here it is!
Instantly all heads turned to where I was standing. The final moment was upon me. One plan or another was going to be put into place at this very moment. The fate of both clans lay in my hands.
Yep, this was going to be a long day.
